Descobri por acaso esses dias o conceito de uncanny valley, que explicaria o estramento que eu tentei explicar lá no comentário acima. E de fato, um dos exemplos dados na Wiki é justo esse filme aí:
"The 2019 film The Lion King, a remake of the 1994 film that featured photo-realistic digital animals in place of the earlier film's more traditional animation, divided critics about the effectiveness of its imagery.
